At the events you will get facts about the following Medicaid programs.

  • STAR
  • You might be in the STAR program if you:

    • Get cash help (TANF)
    • Are a child 18 or younger
    • Are pregnant
    • Are in a family with a low income

In STAR, you get basic medical services, like doctor visits and medicines, through a medical plan and a main doctor or primary care provider.

  • STAR Kids
  • STAR Kids is a Texas Medicaid program for children and adults 20 and younger who have disabilities, receive Supplemental Security Income, or get waiver services through one of the Texas Medicaid waiver programs listed below:

    • The Medically Dependent Children Program (MDCP)
    • Community Living Assistance and Support Services (CLASS)
    • Deaf or Blind with Multiple Disabilities (DBMD)
    • Home and Community-based Services (HCS)
    • Texas Home Living (TxHmL)
    • Youth Empowerment Services (YES)

Along with regular Medicaid services, STAR Kids offers long-term services and supports if you need them. Long-term services and supports include things like help in your home with basic daily activities.

  • STAR+PLUS
  • You might be in the STAR+PLUS program if you:

    • Are 65 or older
    • Are 21 or older and get Supplemental Security Income
    • Are in the Medicaid Breast and Cervical Cancer program

In STAR+PLUS, you get basic medical services – like doctor visits and medicines – and long-term services and supports – like personal caretaker services – through a medical plan. People who have Medicare and Medicaid can be in STAR+PLUS but they will keep getting their basic medical services from Medicare and their long-term services and supports through their STAR+PLUS medical plan.

STAR+PLUS also serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who live in community-based intermediate care facilities for people with an intellectual disability or related conditions (ICF-IID), or who get services through an IDD waiver program and don't have Medicare.

  • STAR+PLUS Medicare-Medicaid Plans
  • In certain parts of Texas, people with both Medicare and Medicaid coverage (dual eligibles) can get all their services – Medicare and Medicaid – through one STAR+PLUS Medicare-Medicaid medical plan.

  • Children’s Medicaid Dental Services
  • Most children and young adults 20 and younger that have joined Medicaid will get dental services through a dental plan and a main dentist.
