You might be in the STAR program if you:
In STAR, you get basic medical services, like doctor visits and medicines, through a health plan and a main doctor or primary care provider.
STAR Kids is a Texas Medicaid program for children and adults 20 and younger who have disabilities, receive Supplemental Security Income, or get waiver services through one of the Texas Medicaid waiver programs listed below:
Along with regular Medicaid services, STAR Kids offers long-term services and supports if you need them. Long-term services and supports include things like help in your home with basic daily activities.
You might be in the STAR+PLUS program if you:
In STAR+PLUS, you get basic medical services – like doctor visits and medicines – and long-term services and supports – like personal caretaker services – through a health plan. People who have Medicare and Medicaid can be in STAR+PLUS but they will continue to get their basic medical services from Medicare and their long-term services and supports through their STAR+PLUS health plan.
STAR+PLUS also serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who live in community-based intermediate care facilities for individuals with an intellectual disability or related conditions (ICF-IID), or who get services through an IDD waiver program and don't have Medicare.
In certain parts of Texas, people with both Medicare and Medicaid coverage (dual eligibles) can get all their services – Medicare and Medicaid – through one STAR+PLUS Medicare-Medicaid health plan.
Most children and young adults 20 and younger enrolled in Medicaid will get dental services through a dental plan and a main dentist.
Texas Health Steps is health care for children from birth through age 20 who have Medicaid. Texas Health Steps gives your child free medical checkups starting at birth, and free dental checkups starting at 6 months of age.
